Silvermane was first discovered by a North Carolina breeder called "Squeaks & Nibbles Rattery" in 2012. Silvermane is a dominant gene that causes the hairs to be empty/clear, which gives the rat it's distinguished silver appearance. You can typically tell at about 11 days if a rat will be a silvermane as they develop a mask (darker muzzle/eye fur) before they molt out. It can be applied to most, if not all, colors but looks best on dark shades.

This line still has a long way to go before I'll be satisfied with it. Temperament wise, they're pretty reliable -- calm, human oriented, engaging. I'm still documenting overall health and longevity. I need to correct head-shape and the general structure. Eye-size and tails are decent, but the backs lack a proper slope and the shoulders in some rats can be too narrow. The masking in some of my silvermanes produced is sub-par which is another thing I will have to work on.
Oct. 2018 - I've gotten Clearie and Declan back, as well as a 1/2 related agouti female.
Sept. 2018 - I will be getting rats back from the breeders who took them from me when my car was totaled.
Feb. 2018 - Would appear that Hannigan is feeling a bit under the weather. Update: Hannigan has low tolerance for protein. Requires a very low protein diet -- not true of any other rats from this line. ** Update ** He is over this issue, whatever it may have been.
Feb. 2018 - Banba was reported as having passed under mysterious circumstances
Jan 2018 - This on again/off again freezing weather seems to have triggered a small case of sniffles in some of my SMs.

* I had to outsource a majority of this line to a breeder friend, but will be getting them back within the next month or so and will pick up where I left off *
